what we do

Nirmal Sir

Priority interventions for women and child welfare in urban slums focus on addressing health, education, protection, and empowerment while considering the unique challenges of slum environments. Key priorities include:

Maternal and Child Health Services

Ensuring access to antenatal care, institutional deliveries, immunization, nutrition, and safe infant feeding practices. Given the poor utilization of services due to cultural and economic barriers in slums, community-based social mobilization and counseling are crucial to promote safe deliveries and neonatal care.

Nutrition and Food Security

Targeted feeding programs and nutritional supplements for children and pregnant/lactating women help improve growth and reduce malnutrition related morbidity and mortality

Education and Child Protection

Enrolling children in schools, especially girls, while protecting them from child labor, abuse, and trafficking. Awareness campaigns and accessible schooling options help break the cycle of poverty

Women’s Economic Empowerment

Providing vocational training, skill development, and entrepreneurship opportunities to women to foster financial independence. Support groups and literacy programs help women become confident decision-makers within their households and communities.

Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH)

Improving access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene infrastructure is essential to reduce disease burden and improve overall well-being. It also alleviates the disproportionate burden on women and girls who often collect water

Community Participation and Safety

Including women in slum upgrading projects and decision-making ensures interventions meet their needs and promote safety. Special focus on preventing violence against women and fostering social inclusion is vital.
